Eleanor Roosevelt and Shirley Temple, 1938
There once was a boy born with tattoos (Greg). Due to this peculiar type of birth defect Greg was home-schooled. He was a sensitive boy so his mother, Cassie, assured him of his normalcy. Daily, she would use false tattoos to cover her bare skin.
One day, while attempting to borrow hair spray, Greg stumbled upon her in the bathroom while applying the tattoos. In tears Greg ran away! He vowed to find a land where he would fit in and blossom into the social butterfly that he knew he could become.
Cassie frantically searched for him, but she began to grow old and tired and finally gave up the search. After ten years had gone by Greg reached out to his mother apologizing for hurting her. He explained he simply had to find himself and along the journey to self-discovery he also found the love of his life. Cassie, excited and overjoyed, met Greg at Delphine, a local restaurant, where him and his significant awaited.
Much to Cassie’s surprise Greg’s partner was not a beautiful woman covered in tattoos, but an adorable virgin-skinned man named Mike. Although, at first Cassie was confused she accepted this partnership. She thought back to Greg’s sensitivity, use of hair products, and his collection of Disney soundtracks and it all came together! Greg’s tattoos didn’t make him different, his sexuality did. It was time for her to, not only embrace Greg, but understand and express her pride—her gay pride.
